Community Kitchen started with a clear vision for creating a unique and holistic dining experience that goes beyond the conventional restaurant model. Our approach emphasizes the importance of high-quality, nourishing, and conscious food that aligns with principles of health and well-being, particularly informed by Ayurvedic practices
The Community Kitchen is located in Zirakpur, a city in the state of Punjab, where the concept of Langar, which provides food to people visiting Gurdwaras regardless of their religious or cultural background, has been a tradition since 1577, thanks to volunteers who have donated food, prepared it and served it with unwavering enthusiasm ever since.
‘Community Kitchen’ aims to carry forward the legacy of langar with the focus of bringing independence, self-respect, and dignity into the lives of women around the world. We aim to serve meals at low cost akin to the Langars held at Sikh temples.
Over the years, Global Women Power, the NGO that powers ‘Community Kitchen’ has worked relentlessly on empowering the lives of women throughout the world. With our Community Kitchen, we bring all our initiatives together to expand and extend our operations for supporting women.
We helped women make ragi bread and you marketed them under Global Women Power. Ragi is a nutritious and gluten-free grain that is commonly used in various culinary preparations, especially in South Asian countries like India.
Ragi (finger millet) is a nutritious grain that can be beneficial for individuals with anemia due to its high iron and nutrient content. Anemic women often have lower levels of iron, and incorporating iron-rich foods like ragi into their diet can help address this deficiency. Anemia is relatively common during pregnancy due to the increased demands for iron and other nutrients.
Pregnant women also have specific nutritional needs to support their own health as well as the proper development of their growing fetus. As Ragi bread helps to maintain a balanced and varied diet that provides essential nutrients, we aimed at generating awareness about the nutritional needs of anemic women and pregnant women by distributing ragi bread.
Here is how you can become a part of this empowering initiative we have built for women.
